![]() Jeremy Ramberg Vice President of Lehman-Roberts, A Granite Company |
No Shortcuts, The Work That Builds a Life A meaningful career isn’t given; it’s built through hard work, humility, and the willingness to take on challenges that others avoid. From enlisting in the Navy right out of high school, to earning engineering degrees, to leading construction teams around the world and commanding the Presidential Retreat at Camp David, and now serving as Vice President of Lehman-Roberts, A Granite Company, Jeremy’s journey reflects a simple truth: where you start doesn’t define where you can go, but how you work does. Through relatable stories and practical lessons, Jeremy encourages students to take pride in their first assignments, lead from every position, and earn a reputation worth betting on. This engaging keynote challenges emerging construction professionals to stay humble, stay hungry, and keep climbing. Jeremy Ramberg is the Vice President of Lehman-Roberts, A Granite Company, leading the people and operations who build and maintain critical infrastructure across the Mid-South. Jeremy’s leadership journey began far from the executive office; he enlisted in the U.S. Navy right out of high school. Over a 24-year career, he advanced from the lowest enlisted rank to Senior Naval Officer, leading construction and combat support missions around the world. His service culminated in becoming the Commanding Officer of the Presidential Retreat at Camp David, directing the team responsible for supporting the President of the United States. After retiring from the Navy, Jeremy brought his engineering and leadership expertise into the private sector. He holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in civil engineering and is a licensed Professional Engineer. Outside of work, Jeremy serves as a volunteer firefighter and enjoys life on a hobby farm in West Tennessee with his wife, Allison, and their daughter, Danica. Whether on a jobsite, responding to a fire call, or helping on the farm, he believes great careers and great lives are built from the ground up through humility, hard work, and service to others. |

2:00 PM | 2:30 PM | The Creation and Subsequent Success of Developing a Construction Risk Identification and Analysis Course for Undergraduates Industry partners have identified that a basic understanding of business risk, beyond safety and jobsite hazard analysis is beneficial to the success of young professionals. It's been proffered, however, that graduates from many Construction Management programs are technically sound, but that critical analysis of performance risk is deficient. The course examines risk management planning, identifying, qualifying, quantifying, responding to and monitoring of uncertainties in the construction process. The course utilizes industry tools to understand how increasing or decreasing the probability and impact of certain risks and potential opportunities can affect the success of the project and ultimately the firm. Through teaching this course over the past three years, students have gained an understanding of the broad aspect of business risk inherent in the construction industry; are able to identify the stakeholders of a project together with their tolerances for uncertainty; perform qualitative and quantitative analysis of these risks with regard to severity levels; and utilize tools to manage risk through all stages of a project. |

2:30 PM | 3:00 PM | Raising the Bar in MEP Engagement and Comprehension The teaching of Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) systems in construction education has traditionally relied on lecture-based instruction focused on naming components, plan reading, and quantity takeoffs. As a result, student engagement has often been low, and knowledge transfer limited. To prepare future project managers for success, students must move beyond simple identification toward true system comprehension, and educators must help dispel the fear and mystery surrounding MEP systems so that project managers can engage more effectively with trade partners. This presentation introduces a newly developed MEP course at Colorado State University that reimagines how students learn building systems through hands-on, experiential learning and direct industry collaboration. In this course, more than 80% of class time is dedicated to active engagement—students climb inside air-handling units, wire commercial lab stations from one-line diagrams, hang ductwork, build residential wiring plans, tour live facilities, and commission a functioning VAV reheat system, among many other activities. These experiences reinforce how mechanical and electrical systems interact in real-world applications while building problem-solving and critical-thinking skills, demystifying the MEP industry, and boosting student interest in pursuing MEP-related careers. This session will share the process of developing the new course, discuss strategies for integrating industry partners, and highlight how revised learning goals—focused on comprehension, collaboration, and system functionality—have transformed student engagement and understanding. Attendees will leave with practical ideas for elevating technical education through experiential and industry-connected learning. |

3:15 PM | 3:45 PM | Presentation & Discussion on the Associated General Contractors of America (AGC) Case Study Program Use of case studies in higher education has been adopted as an effective way to engage students in the classroom and meet learning objectives. Case studies are short papers about real world issues and present dilemmas for students to discuss and address. To support CM educators, the AGC Education and Research Foundation has been producing construction case studies that provide CM faculty with applied examples to strengthen the link between theory and application in the classroom. The AGC case studies are written by faculty-contractor teams and are based on actual industry projects, for students to work through requiring critical thinking and problem-solving. They include · Real World Scenarios, · Supporting Data and Documents, and · Open-Ended Issues to address. This session will describe the AGC case study platform, describe how it can be accessed, and solicit suggestions from CM faculty regarding topics for future AGC case study development. |

![]() Paul Foley Founder & CEO Bulk Exchange |
Paul Foley Born to an excavation contractor on a small farm in the west of Ireland, Paul Foley grew up immersed in the heavy civil construction industry, guided by the values of hard work, resilience, and integrity. After completing a degree in Construction Economics and Building Management, his career expanded across Europe, Australia, and the United States. Years of contracting work provided a deep understanding of the industry and exposed significant inefficiencies—particularly in how contractors sourced materials, compared options, and secured deals. Despite technological advancements elsewhere, the heavy civil materials sector continued to operate much as it had half a century earlier. Bulk Exchange was established in 2020 to transform that reality. BX is designed to modernize and streamline the way contractors and suppliers connect. As the saying goes, “The only way to predict the future is to create it.” |

![]() Rachael Mahoney Chief Strategy Officer & Head of Partnerships Bulk Exchange |
Rachael Mahoney is the Chief Strategy Officer and Head of Partnerships at Bulk Exchange, where she is building the connective infrastructure of construction technology, aligning contractors, suppliers, data, fintech, and AI into one intelligent, workflow-driven ecosystem. Rooted in generations of builders, Rachael grew up in Alaska, where her family is still constructing critical infrastructure and vibrant communities across the state. That foundation instilled in her a deep respect for the people, processes, and perseverance that define heavy construction. Today, in addition to her leadership role at Bulk Exchange, she is also the co-owner of a large regional commercial general contracting firm on the East Coast, giving her a unique perspective that bridges field experience with strategic innovation. With more than two decades in technology and a track record of founding and scaling successful marketplace platforms, Rachael has dedicated her career to turning industry friction into forward motion. She is passionate about connecting her two worlds, construction and technology, to empower the next generation of builders. Her work with students focuses on inspiring digital natives to see construction as a career of impact, where innovation and infrastructure meet to build the future. Bulk Exchange is an intelligent marketplace that helps heavy civil and commercial construction teams move from sourcing to quote faster and with far more clarity. We connect contractors and estimators directly to vetted bulk materials suppliers, inventory, and logistics options so pricing and availability show up when decisions are being made, not days later. Beyond speed and reliability, Bulk Exchange is building the data layer for smarter procurement, including environmental transparency through EPD-enabled materials and impact-aware sourcing. The result is a modern, trusted hub for bulk materials that reduces friction for both buyers and suppliers while pushing the industry toward cleaner, more accountable supply chains. |
